The £20,000 Rolex

A vintage 18ct gold Rolex Submariner-Date wristwatch sets new record!

Batemans set a new (watches) section record in their specialist auction on 18th February.

Expectations were spectacularly exceeded with huge pre-sale interest culminating in telephone, absentee and internet bidders battling it out to secure this special watch.

It sold above estimates to a UK collector via Batemans own internet bidding platform. A brisk 78 seconds of bidding was all it took for the determined buyer to see off all competition, with auctioneer David Palmer bringing down the hammer on the most valuable watch Batemans has ever sold!

The Vendors were understandably delighted with the excellent result and how well Batemans handled the entire sale.

Rolex first created the Submariner in 1953, it was the World’s first watch specifically designed for scuba diving, in order to withstand the rigours of being underwater and at elevated pressures, and at a time when this exciting new sport was growing in popularity.

A vintage 18ct gold Rolex Submariner-Date Oyster Perpetual gentleman’s wristwatch, circa 1986, ref. 16808, 39mm case. Pre-sale estimates: £14,000-£16,000. SOLD FOR: £22,800 (Incl. 20% BP)
