Valuations for Auction:
We are pleased to offer free valuations for items brought into our Valuations Office between 10am and 4pm on any Monday or Friday (except Bank Holidays). No appointment is necessary and one of our Valuers will be able to tell you more about each piece and give you an idea as to value and probable auction estimate, we can then explain what it costs to sell with Batemans (you can also see our Selling page) and will offer good advice as the whether it is worth trying or not. We will most often consign items then and there so you don't have to make another visit to us unless you require time to think about our suggested auction estimate. Selling at auction is extremely convenient but not the fastest or cheapest way of selling - we may suggest alternatives to auction to you if we think it is appropriate.
We can also arrange a private appointment at our offices or at your own home for larger quantities of items or for anything of more significant value.
Collection and delivery of goods for consignment to auction can be arranged using our own transport.
Valuations can also be requested via email by sending attached images and descriptions to firstname.lastname@example.org or by using the image upload feature on our Contact Us page. Please note that due to the large number of valuation requests we receive it may take a week or more to receive a reply via email but of course we will get back in touch as soon as we are able in each case.
Valuations for Probate / Inheritance Tax:
Valuations and inventories of home contents and personal effects (chattels) are extremely useful tools to the executor or trustee of an estate, who may have to identify individual items that have been bequeathed or passed on in Trust to others.
The professional adviser to the estate (usually a solicitor) will advise you if a valuation is required for taxation purposes. Values can be put to individual items or given as an overall figure as appropriate.
Having viewed the items to be valued, we will provide you with a valuation report that usually comprises an inventory (with individual items fully described, where necessary) and an overall total for Probate purposes. Two copies of this report will be provided to you and / or your solicitors, plus an electronic copy or further copies on request.
Cost of Probate Valuation: £60 (£50 plus VAT) per hour.
Valuations for Insurance:
It is important to provide your insurers with an accurate written valuation to obtain the most suitable cover for your items and to make sure that you are neither over nor under-insured.
Following our Valuer’s visit to your premises to view the items to be insured, (or having viewed them at our premises) we will provide you with a typed valuation report. This will contain a full description of each item, the basis of the valuation and its suggested reinstatement value for insurance purposes. Two copies of the final report will be dispatched to you, plus an electronic copy or further copies on request.
Cost of Insurance Valuation: £60 (£50 plus VAT) per hour.
