A Boar War/Great War group of medals awarded to Sergeant William Samways, comprising Queen's South Africa medal, clasps for Wittebergen, Johannesberg, Driefontein, Paardeburg and the Relief of Kimberley, King's South Africa Medal, clasps for 1901 and 1902, to Cpl/Sq S Mjr SW Samways RA/Imperial Yeomanry, 1914-15 Star, Great War and Victory Medals to Sjt W Samways RA and a Meritorious Service Medal to Sjt W Samways, Labour Corps, gazetted on the 14/06/1918, p.7166. Wiliam Samways retired form the arms and became a coal miner in South Wales, retiring as a Chelsea Pensioner and is buried in the Chelsea Pensioner's section of Brookwood Cemetery.
