A set of ten Japanese Imari plates, late 18th century, Tenmei era (1781-1789), with petal form scalloped bodies, decorated in the Kakiemon palette with blue chrysanthemum, red and green foliage, pink spiralling ribbons and gilt detailing, the exterior sides painted with blue scrolls, six kanji mark to base in underglaze blue, each 20cm, with original purchase receipt dated 3rd August 1935 from S. Hayashi, Japanese & Chinese Works of Art, Kyoto, Japan, for 50 Yen. (10) Provenance: The Estate of Mr Joseph B. Hay, son of Major-General Arthur K. Hay DSO OBE - 100 years of a military family.
