A gold and woven elephant hair cuff bracelet, with the crest of the Emperor of Ethiopia, hinged to one side, press clasp and safety chain, 29mm wide, 2mm thick, 68 by 64mm overall, 80.0g, unmarked but testing as between 18ct and 22ct gold.
Provenance: given as a gift from HIH Princess Medferiash Worq, the daughter-in-law of the Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie I in the mid 1980s, with letter sent from The Palace of HIH the Crown Prince, 11th July 1964, thanking Mrs Hancock for hosting their daughters Mary and Sihin on their first holiday in England, a hand written note (on the back of a Buckingham Palace entry note to the Royal Mews dated 1982) describing this bracelet and gifting it to Sarah, and a scrap of Country Life highlighting a similar bracelet sold at a Bonham's charity sale in 2002 for £1300.
Note: similar bracelet in the collection held by the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, Boston MA, given to First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy by Haile Selassie in 1963.
