Manner of Kenneth Denton Shoesmith (British, 1890-1939): a view of the stern of an English man-o-war, with several smaller boats in the water about her, apparently unsigned, oil on canvas, 57 by 68cm, in wide pine frame with slip, 81 by 91cm.
Notes: Shoesmith painted twelve murals telling the story of Sir Francis Drake's defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588, which were commissioned for the First Sea Lord, Lord Vestey, for his dining room at 'Kingswood', in Dulwich. This image appears close in style and handling and may be related.
